EOS R3

From dust storm to downpour, the EOS R3 is built to withstand the tough demands of professional use. While it’s built to the same exacting standards as our renowned EOS-1D X series cameras, the EOS R3’s magnesium alloy body is a more portable package – smaller, lighter and perfect for location work.

Scores of rubber seals protect the camera from dust and moisture, giving you the confidence to keep shooting even when the going gets tough.

World-class image stabilisation

The EOS R3 features a five-axis in-body Image Stabilizer for stills photography and video. This works hand-in-hand with the optical IS found in many RF lenses, resulting in a staggering eight stops of protection against camera shake. This allows creative use of long shutter speeds even when shooting handheld, opening up new ways of expressing movement in your images.

A broader level of vibrations can be compensated for than with many other IS systems, resulting in even crisper sharpness.

EOS R3

When capturing video, the camera’s in-body Image Stabilizer and the lens’s optical IS system can be enhanced by a third system: Movie Digital IS. Together, these systems deliver footage so smooth that looks like it was shot using a gimbal or dolly set up.

Our best viewfinder yet?

Power up EOS R3 and its superb 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder is ready to shoot as soon as it reaches your eye. Our aim in developing this brand- new EVF was to give photographers the responsiveness and clarity they’d expect from an optical viewfinder, combined with the image preview advantage of mirrorless photography

EOS R3

We used a high-resolution UXGA display with a 120fps refresh rate for startling life-like results. Thanks to the extreme speed of the EOS R3’s back-illuminated stacked sensor, the viewfinder shows virtually no lag and is blackout free when shooting.

The EOS R3 uses new interchangeable eye cups, which prevent stray light from entering the viewfinder. A standard ER-h eye cup is supplied with the camera while an optional larger ER-hE eye cup is also available and recommended for photographers wearing spectacles who want to use Eye Control AF.

What you see is what you get

As your window on the world, a camera’s viewfinder should keep you informed without being distracting, which is why the EOS R3’s EVF can be customised completely. Display Simulation mode shows the brightness of the image to be captured with the currently selected settings, while depth-of-field, white balance, and a host of other adjustments can all be previewed in real time, without additional lag.

When shooting for extended periods, or when capturing RAW files that will be processed later, try the EOS R3’s Optical Viewfinder Simulation. This turns off previews of Picture Style, white balance, etc and – using Canon HDR technology – shows a natural-looking display similar to that of a DSLR.

When you need to shoot from alternative angles, the camera’s 3.2-inch Vari-Angle touchscreen lets you do so easily. With 4.15-million dots, it’s the highest resolution screen ever to be fitted to a mirrorless camera, and is very easy to see, even outdoors in bright light.

Flip it out from the camera’s body and it will rotate through 270˚, allowing easy shooting from up-high or low-down.

EOS R3

Fits right into your existing system

You can use the EOS R3 comfortably alongside your existing SLR kit. As with all EOS R series cameras, EF lenses work exactly as they should thanks three high- quality mount adapters. The EOS R3 is powered by a high-capacity LP-E19 battery – the same as you’ll find in our EOS-1DX series cameras – which can be charged inside, as well as outside, the camera body thanks to USB charging. The camera can also be powered by an external battery pack, via the USB port, for extended shooting.

The EOS R3 is result of the three decades of evolution, constantly informed by the requirements of professional photographers. Enjoy unparalleled ergonomics, with a familiar intuitive interface, intuitive controls and ergonomic excellence.

Customisable controls

Whether you’re shooting horizontally or vertically, the EOS R3’s controls fall naturally under your fingers and thumbs. A built-in vertical shooting grip makes the camera easy to hold and a multi-controller and smart controller both fall instinctively within reach of your thumb.

Three customisable dials on the camera’s body, plus a Lens Control ring on most RF mount lens, allow shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure compensation to be adjusted with the camera at your eye.

The R3 features more customisable buttons than ever, including the ability to use the movie mode selection switch to activate a totally silent stills mode. This is ideal for photographers where absolute silence is often required and discretion is of the utmost importance.

Panning Assist

[Panning Assist] when used with a compatible lens with optical IS for panning shots, image stabilisation and subject blur correction are applied during the exposure, creating stunning panning shots while keeping the details of the main subject sharp. The panning assist mode allows shutter speeds 1-2 stops slower to be used for panning than normal. Or to improve the success rate of panning shots using a higher shutter speed.

Dual card slots allow image files to be written to widely available SD cards (with support for the UHS-II standard) or super-fast next-generation CFexpress media. Memory cards can also be used to store camera settings, from network configurations to Eye Control AF calibrations and even firmware updates..
Setting up multiple cameras just got a whole lot easier.

EOS R3

In-camera focus stacking

When depth of field is limited, the EOS R3’s focus compositing mode produces images with perfect front-to-back sharpness – great for macro work or when shooting landscapes.

The camera shoots multiple frames while automatically changing focus from near to far. These are then merged in-camera into a single image that has much greater depth of field, with the subject sharp throughout the frame. It’s a great way to go beyond a lens’s natural limits and create images that are extraordinarily detailed.

As well as producing an in-camera final image, the component frames are also saved, meaning focus-stacked images can be produced in post-production too.
